Cosmetic Acupuncture is a natural anti-ageing technique used to enhance the overall integrity of facial skin. The benefits of cosmetic acupuncture include increased muscle tone and firmness, reduced sagging of skin, softened lines and wrinkles, tighter pores, and a brighter overall complexion.
How it works:
Traditional Chinese Medicine takes a holistic approach to health and wellbeing. Cosmetic acupuncture treatment will not only involve facial acupuncture but acupuncture elsewhere on the body. What shows up on the skin more often than not reflects what is happening internally in the body.
- Dark circles and puffiness under the eyes is often related to poor kidney function/adrenal fatigue
- Sagging skin is usually related to poor spleen function
- Acne is commonly associated with the spleen, large intestine and liver issues
- Wrinkles may be associated with poor stomach function
Other signs and symptoms that the client is experiencing will be discussed in the initial consult to identify the underlying causes for their different health concerns. From there, specific body points related to different organs will be selected in conjunction with the facial points.
The initial consultation is 90 minutes which includes a thorough health assessment to determine the most appropriate treatment. Return appointments thereafter are 60 minutes. Typically, the treatments will involve a gentle cleanse, guasha, acupuncture (20 minute retention), jade roller and a light facial massage.
The practitioner may recommend herbal medicine as an adjunct therapy to support the treatment if they feel it is necessary.
What to expect:
Fine needles are inserted into certain areas of the face – depending on the client’s area of concern. These needles stimulate the body to produce more collagen and elastin, which is what gives the skin it’s strength, firmness and ability to bounce back.
The local needles also promote blood flow to the face which helps brighten and nourish the skin.
Does Cosmetic Acupuncture hurt?
Cosmetic acupuncture is generally painless. The client may feel the slightest pinch as the needles are inserted, however there should not be any discomfort after that. Most patients actually fall asleep during a cosmetic acupuncture treatment.
Should I remove makeup prior to my appointment?
This is totally up to the client; however, a gentle cleanse is incorporated into the treatment. Therefore, the patient can either choose to remove their own makeup prior to the treatment or we will do it for them during the treatment.
How many treatments do you need?
Clients generally start to notice an improvement in skin quality after four sessions, however we recommend six to ten treatments (once a week) for optimum results. Clients may also start to see improvements in other areas of their body, such as better overall energy, improved digestion and improved sleep, just to name a few.
Is cosmetic acupuncture for me?
Most adults can have cosmetic acupuncture either as a preventative measure or as a targeted treatment to address problem areas. We recommend that clients who have had laser resurfacing, chemical peels or microdermabrasion to wait 3 weeks before commencing with cosmetic acupuncture.
